What Does Hebrews 7:6 Mean?
Now the contrast lands. Melchizedek does not trace his line through Levi at all, and yet he received tithes from Abraham, and went further: he blessed him. The man being blessed was no ordinary man but the bearer of the promises on which all of Israel's hope rested.
The logic is quiet but decisive. The one who blesses stands above the one who is blessed, and the one who receives the tithe stands above the one who gives it. By both measures Melchizedek is the greater.
