Israel's own pride testifies against him, yet still the people will not return to the Lord or seek Him.

What Does Hosea 7:10 Mean?

This echoes a line first heard in Hosea 5:5. Israel's arrogance stands up like a witness in court, condemning the nation to its face. Despite every warning and loss, the people neither return to the Lord nor seek Him.

Pride is what keeps the door shut. It refuses to admit need, and so it refuses to turn. Yet the way home is always open to the humble. To seek the Lord is to find Him, and the heart that lays down its pride discovers that He has been waiting all along to receive His people back.

In the Original Language

shuv (שׁוּב), 'return' -- to turn back, the prophets' central word for repentance and homecoming.
