Hosea 8:6 Meaning and Explanation

God presses the absurdity of the idol home: it came from Israel, a workman made it, therefore it cannot be God. A thing shaped by human hands is the creature, never the Creator. The calf of Samaria, for all the devotion lavished on it, will simply be broken to pieces.

The argument is timeless. Whatever we manufacture and then bow to is powerless to save, for it shares our weakness rather than answering it. Only the living God, who made the worker and was made by no one, deserves worship. The first command and the prophets alike call us away from the work of our hands to the Maker of all things, who alone is from everlasting.
