The LORD will protect and deliver Jerusalem both for the honor of his own name and for the sake of his covenant with David.

Context

The LORD explains why he will defend Jerusalem: not only for the city's sake, but to honor his own name and to keep his covenant with David.

What Does Isaiah 37:35 Mean?

God's defense of the city rests on two pillars: his own sake and David's sake. The first reminds us that God acts to vindicate his own name; the second ties the promise to the Davidic covenant and the messianic hope built upon it. Jerusalem matters not only because it is the city of the people but because it is the dwelling place of God's name and the seat of David's throne. When God saves the city, he is preserving the very matrix in which his plan of redemption unfolds.

For us, this double motivation runs through all God's saving acts. He saves us both because his character demands that he be faithful to his word and because each one of us is precious to him as a person loved and known. Jesus is David's greater son, and in him God's own name and the Davidic covenant reach their perfect fulfillment.

Application

When you belong to God through covenant, you can rest knowing that his commitment to you is not shallow or conditional. He defends his own because his honor and his promises are bound up in your welfare.
