Isaiah 9 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Long before Jesus was born, God gave the prophet Isaiah a promise about a special child — and it's one of the most hopeful promises in the whole Bible.

Today's Story

Isaiah lived in a dark, scary time. People were sad and afraid, wandering around like they were lost in the dark.

But God gave Isaiah a promise to share — a promise full of light. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light!” Isaiah said. A light was coming.

And the light would be… a baby. “A child will be born to us. A son will be given to us.”

But this would be no ordinary child. Isaiah said He would have wonderful names: Wonderful Counselor (the wisest helper of all), Mighty God, Everlasting Father (who cares for us forever), and Prince of Peace (who brings peace to everyone).

And this child would be a King whose kingdom of peace would never, ever end.

Hundreds of years later, that baby was born in a little town called Bethlehem — and His name was Jesus. The great light God promised had come.

Talk About It

  1. Isaiah said the people in the dark would see “a great light.” Who is the light Isaiah was promising?
  2. The special child has names like “Prince of Peace.” Where in your life would you like to have more peace?
  3. God made this promise hundreds of years before Jesus was born — and He kept it. How does that help you trust God's other promises?
