What Does James 1:9 Mean?
James turns to the poor believer, the brother of low degree, one without status or means in the eyes of the world. He tells him to rejoice, and the ground of rejoicing is that he is exalted, lifted high in a standing the world cannot see.
In Christ the lowly are raised. The one the world overlooks is made an heir of the kingdom, a child of the Father, rich in faith. The trials of poverty cannot touch this exaltation, for it rests on what God has given rather than on what circumstances allow. The humble believer is invited to glory not in his lack but in the dignity Christ has placed upon him.
