What Does Job 24:16 Mean?
Job describes the burglar, who in the dark digs through the mud-brick walls of houses he marked out in daylight. By day he plans; by night he breaks in. These evildoers, Job says, do not know the light at all; the daytime is foreign to their works.
Their whole life is bent toward the hidden and the stolen, shunning the openness in which honest people live. Scripture warns that those who sow in darkness will reap in due season, for the day of the Lord comes as a thief upon those who least expect it. The light they refuse to know will one day expose every secret deed. Yet even now that same light shines as an open door, for Christ calls thieves and sinners alike to walk honestly in the day.
