What Does Job 24:22 Mean?
Job acknowledges the real and frightening strength of the wicked. By his power he draws down even the mighty, and when he rises up, no man can be sure of his own life. For a time he seems unstoppable, overpowering the strong and leaving the fearful uncertain whether they will survive.
Job does not pretend evil is weak in the present; he sees its terrible force clearly. Yet the surrounding verses insist this strength is borrowed and brief. Scripture teaches that the arm of the wicked shall be broken while the Lord upholds the righteous. The strong man is finally bound by One stronger, for Christ has overcome the powers that hold the world in fear. No earthly might is sure, but the life hidden in God cannot be taken away.
