What Does Job 26:9 Mean?
Job pictures God drawing a covering of cloud across His very throne, hiding its face. The God who rules over the heavens chooses also to conceal Himself, dwelling behind the cloud.
This veiling is a mercy as much as a mystery. No one could bear the unscreened glory of God and live, so He wraps Himself in cloud and draws near in ways we can endure. The promise of Scripture is that the veil will one day be lifted, and the pure in heart shall see God (Matthew 5:8) face to face.
