What Does Job 27:13 Mean?
Job now states his subject plainly. He will describe the portion of the wicked man with God and the heritage of oppressors. These are loaded words: portion and heritage normally speak of a blessed inheritance, but here they name what the ungodly truly receive from the Almighty. The lines that follow unfold this dark inheritance.
Job affirms what is true, that God does deal with wickedness, while resisting his friends' error that present suffering always proves present guilt. The wicked do face a reckoning from God's hand.
