What Does Job 35:11 Mean?
Elihu continues his portrait of 'God my maker' from the verse before. This is the One who teaches us more than the beasts and makes us wiser than the birds — who has set humanity apart with understanding, the very capacity to seek Him and sing in the night. The gift of wisdom is itself a reason to turn to its Giver.
To be made wiser than the animals is to be made answerable in a way they are not: able to know God, to question, to praise. The privilege carries a summons. 'The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom' (Proverbs 9:10), and the mind God gave us reaches its purpose only when it is bent back toward Him. The faculty that lets us cry out in pain is also the faculty that lets us cry out in faith.
