Elihu asks Job a question that needs no answer: did Job help God spread out the sky? He likens the heavens to something strong and firm, bright as a molten looking glass, a mirror of burnished metal stretched overhead. The implied reply is obvious; Job was not there, and had no hand in it.
The question humbles by contrast. The vast, gleaming expanse of the heavens was spread out by God alone, without human help. To stand beneath that sky is to be reminded of one's own smallness before the Maker.
