What Does Job 8:6 Mean?
Bildad lays out his condition plainly: if Job is genuinely pure and upright, God will surely act, waking to his defense and making his household flourish again. The whole sentence hangs on that 'if,' quietly implying Job is not what he claims.
The painful irony is that Job was upright; the book's opening pronounced him so from heaven itself. Bildad's formula, that purity always yields prosperity, simply does not fit the man before him. God does delight to bless the upright, yet He is no machine that dispenses comfort in exact measure to merit.
