Context
Jesus departs from Samaria after a two-day ministry among the Samaritans and travels toward Galilee.
What Does John 4:43 Mean?
Two days is enough. The Samaritans are now rooted in their faith. They don't need Jesus to remain physically; they have the living water within them. He departs, and Galilee calls. There is a sense of movement and purpose in Jesus' ministry. He does not settle. He does not circle back. He moves forward, trusting that the seed he has sown will continue to grow in his absence.
The fact that he left is itself a gift. It teaches the Samaritans that faith in the absent Jesus is possible, that his presence with them need not be physical to be real. It teaches us the same. He has gone to prepare a place for us. He is not here, but he is present through his Spirit and his word. The harvest continues.
Application
Jesus does not stay forever in one place. He moves onward, and he invites us to keep moving with him, from faith to faith, from harvest to harvest. Our security is not in his physical presence but in his promise that he is with us always, even to the end of the age.
