2 John 1 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

2 John is one of the shortest letters in the whole Bible — so short it fits on one page. John wrote it to people he loved, like a quick note in the mail.

Today's Story

Long ago, before there were phones or texts, people sent letters. A man named John, who loved Jesus very much, sat down to write a little note. He wanted to send it to a dear lady and her children — people he cared about like his own family.

John started his letter with warm words. “I love you because of the truth,” he wrote. He told them how happy it made him to hear that her children were walking in the truth — living the way Jesus taught them to live.

Then John shared the big thing on his heart. It was not a brand-new rule. It was the same one they had heard from the very beginning. “Let us love one another,” he said. Loving each other is what walking with Jesus looks like every day.

John also said to hold on tight to what is true, and to watch out for people who try to lead you away from Jesus. Stay close to what you know is good.

At the end, John said he had so much more to say. But he did not want to write it all down. He wanted to come and see them, face to face, so their joy could be full. He could hardly wait for a real hug.

Talk About It

  1. Who is someone you love? What is one way you could show them love today?
  2. John was so excited to see his friends face to face. Who do you wish you could give a big hug right now?
  3. Loving people is something we do, not just something we say. What is a kind thing you can do with your hands this week?
