Ezra 2 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

When the people finally got to go home, someone carefully wrote down who came. This chapter is that big list.

Today's Story

The doors were open. God's people could finally go home to Jerusalem!

So they got ready, family by family, and they started the long walk back. And someone took out a list and began writing down names. Not just a few names — thousands and thousands of them!

There were grandpas and grandmas, moms and dads, big kids and little kids. There were the people who would sing in the temple, and the people who would open the gates, and the helpers who would do all the everyday jobs. Each one had a place. Each one belonged.

They even counted the animals — the horses, the donkeys, and the camels carrying everything they owned.

When they got close to where the temple used to stand, some of the leaders did a beautiful thing. They reached into their bags and gave gifts of gold and silver, as much as they could, to help rebuild God's house.

Every single name on that long list mattered to God. He knew them all — and He was bringing every one of them home.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Where are some places you feel like you really belong — at home, with friends, somewhere else?
  2. God wrote down every single name. How does it feel to know God knows YOUR name?
  3. In the story, everyone had a job — singers, gatekeepers, helpers. What is a job you are good at that helps your family?
