Romans 9 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Romans is a letter a man named Paul wrote to help God's family love God and love each other.

Today's Story

In this part of his letter, Paul shares something close to his heart. He loves his own people very much, and he wishes every single one of them knew Jesus. His heart is full of love for them.

Then Paul helps us picture something. He says God is like a potter, and we are like the clay. Have you ever squished soft clay or play dough? The potter is the one who shapes it. The potter knows just what he is making, even when the clay cannot see the whole plan yet.

God is the wise, loving Maker. Sometimes He does things we do not understand. We might wonder, “Why, God?” And that is okay to wonder!

But here is the comfort: the Potter loves the clay. God is never mean and never makes a mistake. He is kind, and He is making something good — even when we cannot see the whole picture yet.

So we can trust Him. We can say, “God, You are wise and good. I will trust You, even the parts I do not understand.”

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Is there something you have wondered about lately — a big “why” question? It is okay to ask God your why questions.
  2. A potter shapes the clay into something good. When is a time you had to trust a grown-up even though you did not understand?
  3. God is kind and never makes a mistake. How does it help to know the One in charge loves you?
