The submission deepens into something remarkable: 'He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him.' Rather than striking back, he offers the cheek, accepting the blow. 'He is filled full with reproach,' bearing insult and shame without retaliation. This is the patient endurance of one who has entrusted his cause to God and so need not avenge himself.
