What Does Lamentations 3:57 Mean?
This is the answer the whole book has ached for: 'Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee.' The God who seemed an enemy, who seemed hidden behind a cloud, drew near. The distance that defined so much of the lament is overcome. He came close on the very day he was called. The comforter who had been so far off finally draws near.
'Thou saidst, Fear not.' These are among the most precious words in all of Scripture, the words God speaks again and again to his frightened people, and the words the angels would one day bring to shepherds and to the women at the empty tomb.
