Lamentations 3:65 Meaning and Explanation

'Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.' The prayer for justice continues, asking that the enemies be brought to sorrow of heart, that they feel the weight of God's displeasure. The 'curse' here is the formal sentence of judgment that falls on those who persist in wickedness, the opposite of God's blessing.

Such prayers can sit uneasily with us, yet they belong to the honest faith of Scripture, which brings even the desire for justice to God rather than acting it out. The sufferer does not curse his enemies himself or take matters into his own hands; he asks God to deal with them according to his righteous judgment.
