What Does Luke 12:30 Mean?
Jesus sets two postures side by side. The nations — those who do not know God — pursue food, drink, and clothing as the driving quest of life, understandably, for they know no Father behind the world's supply. His disciples are not to copy the anxiety of people who believe they are on their own.
Then comes the sentence that melts worry: your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. He is not a distant ruler who must be informed, nor a reluctant giver who must be persuaded. Work and prayer remain, but they proceed from being already known. A child of such a Father can hold real needs with an unclenched hand.
