What Does Luke 14:32 Mean?
Jesus completes the picture: the outmatched king does not wait for the collision. While the other army is yet a great way off, he sends an ambassage — a delegation of envoys — and asks for conditions of peace. Honest reckoning, made in time, leaves room for terms.
The soul that has counted honestly does the same: it stops pretending it can stand in its own strength and sues for peace. And here the gospel outruns the parable — God has already sent his own ambassadors, praying us in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20). The terms are grace, and peace with God stands open in Christ (Romans 5:1).
