What Does Luke 14:6 Mean?
The room falls silent a second time. Before the healing they would not answer (v. 4); now they cannot. The question about the ox has closed the last avenue, because any honest reply would justify exactly what Jesus has done.
Truth joined to mercy is very hard to argue with. Luke lets the silence stand as the verdict of the scene: the deed was righteous, and everyone present knew it.
