What Does Luke 6:10 Mean?
Jesus looks around at them all — one slow gaze taking in every silent face — then turns to the man: 'Stretch forth thy hand.' The command asks the impossible; a withered hand cannot stretch. Yet as the man obeys, the power to obey is given, and his hand is restored whole as the other.
Notice that Jesus does no visible work at all: no touch, no lifting, only a word. The accusers are left with nothing to accuse but mercy itself. So it often is with Christ's commands — they carry within them the strength they require. The hand that could not move stretches out, and what was withered comes back to life.
