What Does Luke 6:47 Mean?
Jesus introduces his closing picture with three verbs: whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them. Coming, hearing, doing — a chain in which each link matters and the last completes the first two. Such a person, he says, I will show you what he is like.
Many came; fewer truly heard; fewer still did. Jesus is not adding a burden to faith but describing what living faith looks like in motion — words of his that reach the hands and the calendar, not just the ears. The parable that follows will show what hangs on the difference: everything, when the flood comes.
