What Does Malachi 3:11 Mean?
The promise of blessing continues with God's pledge of protection. He will 'rebuke the devourer' -- the blight, pest, or whatever destroys the crops -- for the sake of His people. Their fields will be guarded, their vines will not drop their fruit prematurely, and their harvests will be secure. The God who pours out blessing also defends it from being lost.
This verse reveals that God's care reaches into the ordinary places of daily provision. For a farming people, the threat of pests and failed harvests was constant, and here God promises to stand guard over the very fruit of their labor. His blessing is not only the giving of good things but the keeping of them. There is comfort here for all who depend on God for daily bread, for He attends not only to the harvest but to its safety. The God who provides also protects, watching over the increase He gives so that His people's trust in Him bears lasting fruit.
