What Does Mark 8:26 Mean?
As often in Mark, the miracle ends with a command of silence. Jesus, who led the man out of Bethsaida by the hand to heal him, now sends him around the village rather than through it, directing him straight home with his news untold.
Jesus has just refused to perform a sign on demand, and he will not let this healing become one. He declines to be known first as a wonder-worker; his identity must be understood through the cross, not assembled from spectacles.
