What Does Mark 9:27 Mean?
Jesus takes the boy by the hand and lifts him up, and he stands. It is His familiar gesture in this Gospel: He took Peter's mother-in-law by the hand (Mark 1:31), and Jairus's daughter (Mark 5:41), and raised each one.
Mark tells it in resurrection words: lifted him up, and he arose. Where the crowd saw a corpse, Jesus makes a standing boy. Every hand-clasp like this one points forward to the empty tomb, and onward to the day when that same grip raises all who are His (1 Corinthians 15:22). The story that began with convulsions and fire ends with a child on his feet: held, raised, and free.
