What Does Matthew 24:10 Mean?
Jesus describes how persecution corrodes from within: many stumble, turn on one another, and let hatred replace love. The pressure from outside produces collapse and betrayal inside the community of faith.
This is the sober truth that hardship tests the heart. When loyalty to Christ becomes costly, shallow faith gives way and even friends may turn. Jesus names this so that his followers will guard their love and not be shocked when others fall. To remain faithful and kind when betrayal abounds is itself a witness to the One who was betrayed and yet loved to the end.
