What Does Matthew 24:26 Mean?

Jesus presses his warning further: if people say the Christ is out in the wilderness, do not go; if they say he is hidden in inner chambers, do not believe it. His coming will not be a private discovery for a favored few.

The lie always offers a secret, an exclusive sighting that flatters the seeker. Jesus dismantles it in advance. The true Son of man will not appear in hidden corners to be found by rumor; his return, as the next verse declares, will be as visible as lightning across the sky. Faith need not run after whispers.
