What Does Matthew 24:37 Mean?
Jesus reaches back to Noah for a picture of his coming: as it was in the days before the flood, so will it be when the Son of man comes. The past becomes a window onto the future.
Noah's generation was not destroyed for great spectacle but for ordinary heedlessness -- going on as if no reckoning could come. Jesus warns that his return will likewise overtake a world absorbed in business as usual. The point is not fear but wakefulness: to live now as Noah did, walking with God and ready, so that the coming day finds the disciple prepared and unafraid.
