The people tell the true prophets to stop speaking, refusing words of warning that expose their shame.

What Does Micah 2:6 Mean?

The crowd pushes back: 'Do not prophesy,' they tell the messengers of God. They want no more warnings, for the truth uncovers their disgrace, and they would rather not be confronted. They silence the very word that could save them.

To muzzle the prophet is to refuse the mirror that shows us as we are. A people who will not hear correction cut themselves off from the only voice that can turn them back. Yet God's word is not so easily silenced; it presses on, because His desire is not to shame but to restore those who will listen.
