What Does Micah 6:12 Mean?
The indictment widens. The rich are full of violence, and the inhabitants speak lies; deceit fills their mouths. Wealth gained by force and a culture of dishonesty have corrupted the whole community, from the powerful down to the common speech.
Violence and lies travel together, for theft of property and theft of truth spring from the same disregard of others. When deceit becomes ordinary, society itself decays. The verse calls for the opposite, the integrity that does justice and speaks truth, the very qualities God named as good. A community is only as healthy as its honesty.
