What Does Revelation 3:2 Mean?
Continuing His letter to Sardis, the Lord moves from diagnosis to command. The city had twice been captured in history because its watchmen slept; the image of watchfulness would have struck home. What remains is fragile, ready to die, yet not yet dead.
Grace does not despair over a flickering flame; it tends it. Christ does not tell a failing people merely to feel guilty but to act: be watchful, strengthen, recover. He measures their works as incomplete before God, unfinished rather than abandoned. There is hope in that word. What is ready to die can still be revived if the soul will rouse itself, attend to the things that matter, and let the Lord finish what was left undone.
