What Does Revelation 3:6 Mean?
This single sentence ends the Sardis letter and recurs after each of the seven messages. The call to hear echoes the words Jesus often spoke in the Gospels. Though each letter names one church, the Spirit addresses them all, and through them, every reader.
An ear is given to be used. The summons is personal: not everyone who can hear truly listens. The Spirit is speaking still, and the question is whether we will receive His word into a willing heart. What was said to Sardis is also said to us, for the same dangers of complacency and the same promises of life cross every age. To have an ear is grace; to use it is obedience; and the one who listens will not be left in death.
