The vision of chapter 4 continues. John still stands before the throne of God, and now his eye is drawn to what God holds in His right hand: a scroll so full of writing that the words spill onto the back, fastened shut with seven seals. A scroll sealed this completely could not be read until every seal was broken.
The right hand is the place of authority, and the sealed scroll holds purposes that belong to God alone.
