Zechariah asks the messenger where the basket is being carried.

What Does Zechariah 5:10 Mean?

The prophet, watching the basket rise into the sky, asks the natural question: 'Whither do these bear the ephah?' Where is wickedness being taken? As throughout these visions, Zechariah seeks understanding rather than guessing, turning to the messenger for the meaning.

His question models the right posture before the things of God. It is not enough to see; we ask what it means and where it leads. The reader is drawn to wonder, too, at where God removes the evil He has gathered up, and what He intends to do with it.
