Sent to Herod, who has long hoped to see a sign, Jesus stands silent and answers nothing while the ruler questions and mocks him (Luke 23). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

Depicted passages
French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
