Joseph Sold into Egypt
Joseph's brothers draw him up from the pit and sell him to passing traders for twenty pieces of silver, and he is carried down to Egypt (Genesis 37). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his illustrated Old Testament.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
