The Message of Pilate's Wife
As Pilate sits in judgment, his wife sends word to him, urging him to have nothing to do with that righteous man, for she has suffered much in a dream because of him (Matthew 27). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
