Jesus Walks on the Sea

Jesus comes to the disciples walking on the storm-tossed sea, and when Peter steps out toward him but begins to sink, Jesus reaches out and catches him (Matthew 14). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
