Seen from where Jesus hangs, the scene takes in those gathered at the place called Calvary as he prays for their forgiveness and the sky darkens (Luke 23). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

Depicted passages
French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
