In Gethsemane Jesus returns from prayer to find his disciples asleep, and asks Peter whether he could not watch with him for one hour (Matthew 26). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
