What Does 1 Timothy 1:20 Mean?
Paul names Hymenaeus and Alexander as examples of those whose faith has been wrecked. He has put them outside the protection of the church's fellowship.
Even this severe step has a merciful aim: that they may learn and turn back. The goal is not destruction but correction, that they would stop blaspheming and be restored. Discipline, rightly used, seeks the sinner's recovery.
