What Does 1 Timothy 1:9 Mean?
Paul says the law was not framed for those already living rightly, but to confront those who break it. He begins a list of serious offenders, echoing the kinds of wrongs the commandments forbid.
The point is that the law exposes and restrains evil. For the person walking in faith and love, its demands are already being lived; for the rebellious, it stands as a warning. The law shows sin for what it is, so that mercy can be sought.
