What Does Joel 2:15 Mean?
The same trumpet that sounded the alarm in verse one is blown again, but now for a different purpose. It calls the people not to flee but to gather: sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly. The instrument of warning becomes the instrument of worship. The crisis is to drive the whole community together before God in humble, set-apart seeking.
There is beautiful movement here from dread to devotion. The first trumpet said danger is near; this one says come and seek the Lord. Repentance is not meant to be private and scattered but gathered and shared, a people humbling themselves together. To sanctify a fast is to mark out a holy time when ordinary life is set aside to attend wholly to God. The blast that once spread fear now spreads a summons of hope, calling everyone to the one place of refuge: the presence of the merciful Lord.
