God answers His people directly, promising to restore grain, wine, and oil and to remove their shame among the nations.

What Does Joel 2:19 Mean?

God answers, and His answer reverses chapter one point by point. The grain, wine, and oil that the locusts destroyed He now promises to send again, and this time the people shall be satisfied. He also vows to remove their reproach among the nations, undoing the very shame the priests had pleaded against. The God who took away now restores, and abundantly.

There is great tenderness in the words I will answer and say unto his people. Repentance is met not with silence but with a personal reply from God, addressing the exact wounds the people carried. The restored grain, wine, and oil are tokens of renewed fellowship, the materials of offering and feast. And the lifting of reproach shows that God cares for the honor of His people, not only their survival. This is how He deals with the contrite: not minimally, but generously, satisfying the hungry soul and removing its shame.
