What Does Micah 1:14 Mean?
The lament continues with farewell gifts, as a daughter is sent off, and with Achzib, whose name sounds like the Hebrew for deception or a brook that dries up in summer. The kings who counted on it will find it a disappointment.
Whatever Israel's leaders trusted apart from God turns out to be a deceptive stream, full in appearance and empty when needed. The verse is a quiet warning against every confidence that cannot bear weight. Only the Lord is a fountain that does not fail in the day of drought.
In the Original Language
akhzab (אַכְזָב), 'a lie' -- a deceptive thing, like a stream that dries up just when it is needed.
