What Does Obadiah 1:9 Mean?
Teman was a chief district of Edom, known for producing courageous fighters. Now God says even these mighty men will be dismayed, their courage drained, so that the nation's defenders cannot hold and the judgment reaches everyone on the mount of Esau.
With wisdom removed in the prior verse and now strength failing, Edom is shown to have no resource left. Human might, like human wisdom, cannot stand against God's purposes. The verse turns the reader from confidence in power to dependence on the Lord, in whom alone the heart finds a courage that does not melt away.
