Naomi sets out from Moab on the road to Judah, her two daughters-in-law accompanying her.

What Does Ruth 1:7 Mean?

Naomi acts on her resolve. She goes forth from the place that had become her home of sorrow, and her two daughters-in-law set out with her on the road to Judah. The simple, repeated language, she went forth, they went on the way, gives the verse the feel of a slow, deliberate departure, three grieving women walking together toward an uncertain future.

What stands out is that Orpah and Ruth are still with her. They owe Naomi nothing now; the marriages that bound them are ended by death. Yet love and loyalty keep them at her side, at least for these first miles. Sometimes faithfulness looks like simply staying on the road with someone in their grief, taking the next step together when the destination is unclear. This quiet companionship, two Moabite women walking toward the land of Israel, is already a picture of how God gathers the unexpected into the journey of His people.
